Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra Winds
Maria Fuller, conductor

Pack your bags, after celebrating the holidays we’re back on the road for our next musical adventure to the Golden City.

One of the most picturesque and welcoming cities in all of the world, Prague has been a musical hub for centuries. It was here in Prague that Mozart loved to visit, perform, and even premiere operas. The city of a hundred spires feels like stepping back in time to a fairytale land; the cobblestones, the beautiful architecture, the Spring Festival, and their beautiful river!

Mozart’s Don Giovanni premiered in Prague to rave reviews – even though he only wrote the overture the night before – the audiences there were already familiar with the maestro’s music after the an incredibly successful run of the Marriage of Figaro.

Two generations later, Dvorak’s music captured a nationalistic spirit and sound of Czechia. His music is forever tied to his love for his homeland. Dvorak’s Wind Serenade highlights the richly romantic and passionate nature of Prague.

The SSO’s Winds will perform this special concert that takes a musical stroll from the Old Town to the astronomical clock, Prague Castle, and on to the shores of the Vltava!

The SSO is reimagining the possibilities for what concerts we can bring to the stage for our 90th season and still address the risks and protocols required to ensure safety for musicians and audiences during the pandemic.

We’re trying something completely different this year – we’re taking a musical trip around the world, so each and every concert is a musical trip. To ensure that we can keep adapting to the Saskatchewan Public Health requirements, we’re planning trips a month or two at a time. So we’ll be constantly revealing concerts that are coming up!

Each concert will be available for live stream and video on demand through our new Digital Concert Stream.

While we’re on our musical trips there’ll be all sorts of special travel perks and virtual experiences through our InTune Blog!
