Peter Stoicheff began his 39-year career at the University of Saskatchewan in 1986. After serving as a professor and then dean of the College of Arts & Science, he was appointed the university’s 11th president in 2015.

Over the past decade, he has led the university to be one of Canada’s top research-intensive medical-doctoral universities. Striving to “be the university the world needs”, USask is having global impact in water and food security, synchrotron sciences, pandemic preparedness, and agricultural technology. Under his leadership, USask has also increased its partnerships with world-leading institutions around the world.

Recognizing the importance of post-secondary education to Indigenous peoples, Peter has supported USask initiatives to be a reconciliation leader in the country, increasing Indigenous student enrolments and ensuring close connections with local and national Indigenous communities and organizations.

A classical guitarist with two CDs to his name, Peter is a strong supporter of the arts. He has built vibrant partnerships with arts organizations including through formal agreements with the SSO and Remai Modern.
