Kateryna Khartova

soprano

Canadian-Ukrainian soprano Kateryna Khartova is a graduate of The Glenn Gould School in Toronto (2020) and an alumna of the University of Saskatchewan Department of Music (2016).

In 2024, Khartova was awarded first prize at the prestigious Gordon C. Wallis Opera Competition, further establishing her as one of Saskatchewan’s notable emerging vocal artists. Recent performance highlights include appearing as soprano soloist in the 2025 world premiere of Ukrainian composer Myroslav Volynsky’s cantata Divine Scales with Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir alongside members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at Edmonton’s Winspear Centre. The large-scale production featured a 100-voice choir and orchestra celebrating Ukrainian sacred and choral traditions.

While studying at The Glenn Gould School, Khartova made her Koerner Hall debut in 2019 performing the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, directed by Joel Ivany and conducted by Nathan Brock. She also performed the role of Eleanor in Bohuslav Martinů’s surrealist mini-opera Les larmes du couteau, conducted by Peter Tiefenbach and directed by Anna Theodosakis.

A passionate advocate for Ukrainian vocal music, Khartova continues her artistic connection with the Ukrainian Art Song Project in Toronto. Earlier career highlights include performing as soprano soloist with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra in Larysa Kuzmenko’s Golden Harvest in 2017.

Recent collaborations also include performing with the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra in A Kolomyika Fantasy, a concert celebrating Ukrainian musical traditions through jazz and modern orchestration. The program included the premiere of A Kerchief, a new work by Saskatoon composer Paul Suchan set to poetry by Taras Shevchenko.

Beyond the stage, Khartova works as part of the development team at the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, where she continues to support and strengthen the cultural life of her home city of Saskatoon.
