Maestra Janna Sailor returns home to lead the orchestra in an all-Canadian program featuring new works by Saskatoon’s  Artist/Activist/Educator Zoey Roy, and local composer/educator Wayne Toews. The concert also includes Coulthard’s Canada Mosaic, John Estacio’s Frenergy, and a new piece by cellist/composer Cris Derksen.

Derksen joins the SSO to perform her fiery new work Controlled Burn. Commissioned by Montréal’s Orchestre Métropolitain, it simulates the sounds of the Indigenous Peoples’s centuries-old practice of using fire to clear forest debris and protect trees and wildlife.

Zoey Roy takes to the stage with her hip-hop-inspired spoken word poetry and her piece Ever, Beautiful which has been orchestrated by fellow performer Cris Derksen.

It’s a celebration of Canadian excellence!
