Layne Spencer

Sciarrone

Layne Spencer, bass, is an emerging Canadian opera singer currently making his debut as Sciarrone in Tosca. He is honoured to be joining Edmonton Opera on tour to Ottawa, Whitehorse, and Saskatoon as part of this exciting first engagement.

After several years of foundational classical training, Layne began to find his voice in 2024, leading to a series of new opportunities. He spent the 2024–2025 season singing in the Edmonton Opera Chorus, steadily building his experience with guidance from respected coaches and teachers. As a developing artist, Layne is committed to learning deeply from every professional environment he enters. He values the rehearsal room as much as the stage and approaches each opportunity as a chance to grow vocally, theatrically, and personally.

Originally from Alberta, Layne draws strength and focus from his supportive home life and his fiancée, who plays a central role in his journey. He is passionate about building a career steeped in artistic, professional, and personal integrity.

With a deep respect for the tradition of opera and an eagerness to contribute meaningfully to its future, Layne enters this next chapter with humility, drive, and a profound appreciation for the artists and institutions that have helped shape his path.
