Stacey Mortenson-Spokes is the Director of the University of Saskatchewan Wind Orchestra, a sessional lecturer in Music Education at the University of Saskatchewan, and fourth horn with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra.

A lifelong Saskatoon musician and Saskatoon Youth Orchestra alumna, Stacey holds a BMus in Music Education and a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Saskatchewan. Stacey recently superannuated after a 30-year career teaching music in public schools, including concert and jazz bands, marching bands, drumline, choirs, vocal jazz, guitar, musicals, pit bands, and jazz combos.

Stacey returned to the Saskatoon Symphony in 2022, having previously been a member from 1993–1996. She is also an active guest conductor and adjudicator, with recent engagements including the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra – Women of Jazz, and the SSO Jazzfest performance featuring crooner Michael Lewis.

In 2013, Stacey founded Saskatoon Serenade, Saskatoon’s first all-female concert band, which she led for eight years. Her contributions to music education have earned her the Keith Mann Outstanding Canadian Band Director Award (2016) and the Saskatchewan Band Association’s Distinguished Band Director Award (2017). A passionate advocate for music education, Stacey believes in music’s transformative power to shape students’ lives and build resilient communities.
