About The National Ballet of Canada
One of the top international ballet companies, The National Ballet of Canada was founded in 1951 by Celia Franca and celebrates its 75 th anniversary this year. Today, the company is among the world’s finest, with 76 dancers and its own orchestra. The National Ballet has a history of pre-eminent Artistic Directors and in January 2022, welcomed Hope Muir to the role. Renowned for its diverse repertoire, the company performs traditional full-length classics, embraces contemporary work and encourages the creation of new ballets as well as the development of Canadian choreographers. The company’s repertoire includes works by Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Aszure Barton, Marie Chouinard, Guillaume Côté, John Cranko, Resident Choreographer David Dawson, William Forsythe, Alonzo King, James Kudelka, Wayne McGregor, Kenneth McMillan, John Neumeier, Rudolf Nureyev, Crystal Pite, Emma Portner, Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon and the company’s Choreographic Associate Ethan Colangelo, among other creators. The National Ballet tours in Canada, the United States and internationally with recent appearances in Paris, London, Moscow and St. Petersburg, Hamburg, New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco.

About Sharing the Stage
Launched in 2019 with the generous support of the Metcalf Foundation, Sharing the Stage connects The National Ballet of Canada with the dance and theatre community through shared performances and accessible programming. It first began with outdoor performances at Harbourfront Centre featuring such local Toronto companies as Compañía Carmen Romero, Esie Mensah Creations, Holla Jazz, Human Body Expression, Little Pear Garden Dance Company, Lua Shayenne Dance Company, Rock Bottom Movement and Tanveer Alam. The program expanded to include a performance with Nova Dance at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts and Rainbow on Mars, a collaboration with Outside the March and Peripheral Theatre. The 75th anniversary marks the first time Sharing the Stage will be presented nationally with partnerships with Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, Ballet BC and First Ontario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catherines.
